In her search for a program that would meet her son Jaxon’s unique needs, Jamie worked with BCFR Support Coordinator Nicole Davidson to find an after-school program. Jamie was seeking a place that could support his development and allow him to explore new hobbies and practice social skills.
Nicole found a way to use Home-Based Support Services (HBSS) funding to have Jaxon begin attaining services at Impact Support Services, formally known as ACT. Soon after, Nicole secured a waiver for him to continue services.
“I love the afterschool program because as a single mom, it was stressful to find a place that was reliable, and that I could trust to accommodate Jaxon and his needs. I have had zero worries since he started there,” said Jamie.
Nicole is excited that she was able to help with care for Jaxon by being creative and using HBSS funds.
Jaxon’s main focus at Impact is developing meaningful social interactions.
Impact Program Manager for Youth Services Alyx Ensminger said, “We work with Jaxon a lot on choosing topics that keep others engaged, that friendships and meaningful social interactions mean you talk about things for both people in that conversation. So, he has made a lot of progress in that.”
Under Alyx and the staff’s guidance, Jaxon has advanced in managing frustration, sharing turns and other essential social skills. He particularly enjoys the cooking club, make your own pizza day being a favorite, and engaging in hands-on activities like constructing circuit board games and marble mazes.
