Cathy and her staff work with advocates, employers, businesses, communities, state and local governments to ensure that people with disabilities increase their independence through choice and opportunity.

TheĀ Friends of Boone County Family Resources presents another Speaker Series presentation on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Boone County Family Resources main office, 1209 East Walnut Street.

Gov. Jay Nixon signed the Missouri Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Program in late June which enables persons with disabilities to open a tax-free savings account to use for expenses related to their disability, without jeopardizing eligibility for other critical benefits such as Medicaid.

Learn about the Missouri ABLE Program and how it will benefit you and your family at this free presentation by Cathy Brown, Director of Public Policy and Advocacy at Paraquad in St. Louis.

Cathy has over 15 years of experience in social services. Shortly after earning a B.S. in Psychology from Truman State University and an MSW from Mizzou, she began her career affecting systems change, in partnership with people with disabilities and their families, at the Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council. Now she is the director of public policy and advocacy at Paraquad, one of the oldest and largest Centers for Independent Living in the country.

There is no cost to attend this free presentation, but please RSVP to Sherry Wohlgemuth at (573) 874-1995 ext. 160 so that we may plan for plenty of seating.
