Les Wagner Community Room Provides a Welcoming Space to Supported Living

March 7, 2023

The Les Wagner Community Room typically holds staff meetings, classes and community events. The accessible space which accommodates more than 100 guests is also a perfect venue for Supported Living gatherings.

“Get Ready Party” – Night to Shine 2023

On February 2 from 3-5pm, approximately 30 Supported Living residents arrived at the Les Wagner Community Room to get glammed up and ready for the much anticipated Night to Shine event hosted at The Crossing Church. Six staff prepped the community room to turn it into a makeshift salon in order to style hair, apply makeup, pair jewelry options and paint nails to get residents ready for the big night out. Everyone enjoyed getting pampered while drinking sparkling grape juice and snacking on popcorn — and they especially liked the male staff doing their nails. Supported Living Site Manager Kirsten Lippelman loved “seeing the ladies all dolled up” and “Dan practicing his best breakdancing moves” in preparation for the evening to come.

Ryan said, “I had fun, I want to do it again next year.”

Movement Class with Mizzou Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA)

Through a collaboration with Mizzou OTA, Director of Supported Living Kim Milius is working with a group of students to focus on wellness in Supported Living. In February, the students put on an exercise class based on movement that included trendy songs and fun dance moves. DSP Geo Eckardt said, “Everyone had fun dancing, that was most of the exercise. I enjoyed seeing them happy.”
