Graduating, Mentoring and Heading to College!

June 21, 2025

In May, Drew kicked off a fun-filled summer by celebrating his graduation from Rock Bridge High School with a party surrounded by family and friends. For Drew, graduation is just one exciting milestone among many as he steps into a future full of opportunities and connections.

Drew throws his hand up in triumph while wearing his green cap and gown.

Drew’s Support Coordinator, Rebecca Cramer, has enjoyed watching him grow throughout high school. “He has worked hard mentally, physically and emotionally to be where he is now,” she said. “It will be amazing to watch how he continues to grow into exactly who he is supposed to be.”

Throughout high school, Drew was actively involved in a variety of activities. He participated in show choir all four years and enjoyed playing in the Special Olympics. He attended the Life and Work Connections All Day Workshop, where he had a great time connecting with other students. He also took part in a work block program, which helped improve his communication skills and allowed him to build relationships with coworkers. Last summer, his family received reimbursement for home-based support services during his recovery from surgery, helping him stay on track with his goals.

Thanks to BCFR funding, Drew has spent several summers attending Camp Barnabas. This year marks a special change: he’ll return not as a camper, but as a Camp Mentor. “I am looking forward to that, and one of my friends is doing that as well,” Drew shared. His mom added proudly, “He’ll get to go and be somebody the other kids will look up to.”

Rebecca also helped the family explore a variety of post-secondary options, and Drew ultimately connected with the THRIVE program at the University of Central Missouri. Drew was accepted into the program and is looking forward to starting college there in the fall.

“It has been great getting to see Drew’s self-confidence grow over the past three years and witness him seeing in himself what those around him have always known,” said Rebecca.
