Family Finds Support in Boone County Family Resources

After relocating to Columbia from College Station, TX, Jana found a support system in Boone County Family Resources (BCFR) which has been instrumental in helping her son, Zane, thrive.

The family moved to Missouri two years ago and the transition was difficult for Jana, particularly in navigating the complex world of services for Zane who has autism.

“The transition was really hard for me from Texas to here. It’s hard to navigate through all the therapies, there’s a long waitlist for everything,” said Jana. “I feel like BCFR has always been helping, especially for me, to get through things and to find things quicker.”

Zane’s Support Coordinator Victoria has been a constant source of guidance, helping the family navigate supports and advocating for the appropriate services for Zane.

“She helps with IEP meetings, she’s been here for me in our house visiting making sure we have everything we need,” said Zane’s mom. “BCFR has been instrumental in providing toileting supplies, making this part of life easier too,” said Jana.

Zane has significant sensory needs, which Victoria has helped address by providing equipment to create a sensory-friendly space in their home. This includes a compression chair, balance board, and spinning chair which have greatly improved Zane’s ability to engage in calming, therapeutic activities at home.

Beyond speech and occupational therapy, BCFR has connected Zane’s family with a variety of services and resources, including, music therapy, access to support groups and educational tools that are helping Zane at home, at school and within the community.

“Victoria has been a wonderful help to us, especially with Zane. She’s followed him in his growth and has made a great impact on our lives,” Zane’s mom shared. “She gives us hope and more confidence for the future, and for people with autism.”

Zane’s family is thankful for Victoria and BCFR for providing the tools and support they need to ensure Zane can continue to thrive.

“I feel like out of all the things that they had, here in Missouri, I feel like Boone County Family Resources (BCFR) was the best thing that ever happened to Zane,” Jana shared.
