Meet Rachel Wiegman, Support Coordinator. Rachel has been with Boone County Family Resources for five and a half years and enjoys meeting with individuals one-on-one to ensure they have all of the supports that they need to thrive in the community, connect with others, and achieve their personal goals. Rachel is unique as she is the only regularly assigned Support Coordinator that works with individuals served by the agency who are deaf. She manages a caseload made up of children, adolescents and adults.
Rachel says she enjoys using her sign language skills daily to communicate with the individuals served by the agency. In addition to talking with Rachel, individuals can also use an adaptive video telephone system to communicate with other service providers or other agency staff.
Rachel received her Bachelors of Science in Sign Language from William Woods University in 2006. Before college, Rachel had no exposure to American Sign Language. After taking a single sign language course, She knew she wanted to work with the Deaf population. Prior to beginning her career with BCFR, Rachel volunteered for Special Olympics where she assisted with bridging the communication barriers between deaf athletes, volunteers and peers.
