Don Merrifield, BCFR Property & Facilities Manager

By Linda Reed Brown

Nearly every BCFR staff person comes in contact with or communicates with Don in his position as the Agency’s Property and Facilities Manager. At any given time, Don may be painting, answering a phone call, and arranging for carpet cleaning, vehicle towing, roof repair, kitchen and bath cabinet installation, moving furniture, giving DL Gladbach directions about his next task, helping with set-up for Agency events and any of the myriad other tasks that catch his attention.

Don first came to work at BCFR in May 2010 as part-time computer support and then in October 2011 became the full-time Property and Facilities Manager. Don’s favorite thing about working at BCFR is the people!

Don grew up on a farm in north central Missouri and besides farming, has a varied history of work experience that serves the Agency well, including electronics in the Chemical Engineering Department at the University, roofing, welding, and scuba diving. Don has some hobbies that are unique. He is especially fond of using Photoshop and turns photos into “drawings” – if you see him early in the morning, take a look at his coffee mug. Don is skilled at installing electronic monitoring systems, having done so in his home and at a couple of businesses around Columbia, and replacing parts on vehicles. He is also fond of The Voice, TV, movies, BBQ ribs and good music and especially enjoys volunteering at Roots ‘n Blues.

Don’s family includes Ann who is the Director of Alumni Relations at Columbia College, Benjamin who is a chef and restaurant manager at Peachtree Catering, Daniel who is attending tech school for photonics (laser tech) in Iowa, and Sarah who is at Rock Bridge High School and active in theater and music.
