Wish List
Thank you for your interest in helping Boone County Family Resources. Occasionally, our families confront unexpected situations that are difficult to face alone, i.e., their house burns down or is damaged by a storm. When that happens, we’ll run a list of specific items the family or individual needs. You can pick an item from the list and donate it in c/o Friends of Boone County Family Resources, 1209 East Walnut. Columbia, MO, 65201. Interns and Service Learning Students
Boone County Family Resources works with many area colleges and institutions to establish and maintain relationships with both undergraduate and graduate students. This partnership promotes knowledge of our agency and of the people we serve as well as provide valuable experience for future professionals. Currently, BCFR has opportunities for both interns and service learning students.
Internships
Boone County Family Resources typically hosts one or two interns in social work or other college programs. Interns learn how to work with families and individuals with developmental disabilities. The internship experience is primarily a professional development opportunity, and interns learn what the role of a case manager is, how to interview a family or client, develop a treatment plan, and then implement the treatment plan by linking clients to various community resources.
The goal of internships at BCFR is to get a broad knowledge and understanding of developmental disabilities. If you would like to be considered for one of the internship opportunities available, please speak with your academic advisor and call BCFR at 573-874-1995.
Service Learning
Service-Learning is the formal integration of community service into student instruction and learning. Boone County Family Resources provides opportunities for a broad range of projects, regardless of the degree or interest area. Examples of past service learning partnerships include facilitating cooking, exercise or nutrition classes for clients, initiating a book club, completing research on relevant topics, and developing various products, such as our Personal and Family Choices Guide, Power Point presentations for staff training, and marketing materials.
If you have an interest in working with our agency or clients, we can find a project to fit your interests! Contact the Office of Service-Learning at the University of Missouri at 573-882-0227 for more information on how you can be connected with BCFR!
