PHYSICAL THERAPY

 

DEFINITION

 

Service is provided to prevent or alleviate movement dysfunction and functional problems related to an individual's developmental disability that interferes with activities of daily living and decrease capacity and performance.  Therapy may be provided on a one to one basis or in a consultative mode.  One to one therapy is for clients who require intervention to maintain health, prevent further movement loss, or enhance physical skills.  Training or technical assistance regarding treatment or use of adaptive equipment may be provided for:

 

            1.  an individual with a disability and their caregiver

            2.  professionals actively providing services to the eligible individual or

            3.  employers of eligible individuals

 

PROVIDER

 

A provider must be licensed by the State of Missouri as a Physical Therapist. When authorized, a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) with an associate degree in Physical Therapy Education from a program accredited by the Commission of Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education may perform this service under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist.
