Welcome to BCFR’s Assistive Technology Exchange Program!

The Assistive Technology Exchange Program (ATEP) is sponsored by the Friends of Boone County Family Resources. The ATEP originated through a planning committee consisting of representatives from Boone County Council on Aging, Boone County Family Resources, Columbia/Boone County Health Department, Rusk Rehabilitation Center, Services for Independent Living and Voluntary Action Center.

The ATEP is an online database of assistive technology equipment and devices that are available to individuals in need in central Missouri. The database compiles a complete listing of equipment available from various participating agencies and individuals. The ATEP online database is updated on a regular basis as equipment becomes available.

Assistive Technology (AT) is any device that helps a person achieve greater independence and lead a more productive life.

DONATING AN ITEM

If you have an assistive tech item you’d like to donate, contact Sara Agnew, Outreach & Referral Coordinator at sagnew@bcfr.org or call (573) 874-1995.

Items BCFR is unable to accept because of potential liability are cribs, car seats and play pens.  We also do not accept items of personal apparel because of the logistics of storing such items.  We suggest those items be donated to one of the local businesses or agencies that are equipped to handle such donations.

TO REQUEST AN ITEM

To request an item from ATEP, download and complete the Assistive Tech Exchange Program Referral in full, including all required signatures. Medical professionals, including, but not limited to, physicians, physician assistants, occupational and physical therapists, nurses, medical case managers, and social workers can request such available items for clients/patients by completing the required referral form and obtaining the client’s signature on the form.

Individuals cannot receive any piece of equipment without the consent of one of the medical professionals listed above. If you see an item you would like, have a medical professional contact BCFR on your behalf.

Once the request form has been filled out and signed, contact Sara Agnew, Outreach & Referral Coordinator, to set up a time to pick up the item. The Assistive Tech Exchange Program Referral must be filled out in full at the time of pick-up.

Sara Agnew can be reached by e-mail at sagnew@bcfr.org or call her at (573) 874-1995.
