We come from diverse backgrounds with different experiences and varying resources. Each of us is unique, with differing values, abilities and views. Even given similar circumstances, what one person needs may not be the same as another. Developmental disabilities differ greatly as well. That’s where our agency tries to help. Because each person’s life is unique, we put together a team to make an individualized plan for a new and better future--a future when the person with developmental disabilities and their family get help and support. That hope of a different and better future bonds persons served, their families, agency staff, providers, advocates and volunteers into a community committed to meeting the challenges of developmental disabilities. Many thanks to all who have contributed so much of their time and energy.

Tanner and StaffBoone County Family Resources purchases and provides services for Boone County residents with developmental disabilities and was established with the passage of a property tax proposition in 1976. Services expanded following a local ballot initiative in 1993. An Affiliated Community Service provider with the Missouri Department of Mental Health, the agency also contracts to provide Supported Living residential services and Life & Work Connections vocational and residential services. Boone County Family Resources is also a Service Coordination provider for the First Steps program for special needs infants and toddlers. From the initial eight persons receiving residential services in 1977, the agency has grown to serve over 1200 children and adults with developmental disabilities last fiscal year.

Andy at Wal-martA nine member Board of Directors appointed by the Boone County Commission administers agency activities. Operating as a public entity, the agency abides by all applicable statutes and public rules, including those governing conduct of public meetings, conflict of interest for public officials, fidelity bond provisions, and is annually audited by a Certified Public Accountant. Services directly provided by the agency are nationally accredited by the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF).
